Spencer Township is under the jurisdiction of the Spencer Township Zoning Resolution, which is administered and enforced by the Zoning Department (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

The zoning office is located at 630 North Meilke Road, Holland,Ohio 43528 and open every Tuesday from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. 

Before relocating or constructing any building, addition, deck, fence, or pool, the property owner or his/her agent must obtain a zoning permit from the Zoning Office. The completed application must be submitted to the Zoning Office at 630 North Meilke, Holland,Ohio 43528 with an original signature and the correct fee prior to the Zoning Department processing the application. Zoning staff will contact by telephone when the permit is available to be picked up. Permits are not issued on a walk-in basis. After receiving an approved zoning permit, a building permit may be necessary. If you have any questions please contact the Lucas County Building Department at 419-213-2990.

At least fourty-eight hours before digging, call the Ohio Underground Protection Service (OUPS) at 1-800-362-2764. Protection crews will mark any utility or gas lines to assure your safety and prevent accidents.

Zoning Commission

ZoningAn application for a zoning change or text amendment can be filed with the Spencer Township Zoning Administrator on behalf of the Zoning Commission. A request is first reviewed by the Toledo-Lucas County Plan Commission, then by the Zoning Commission, both boards giving a recommendation of approval or denial. Final determination is given by the Spencer Township Board of Trustees.

Zoning Commission meetings are open to the public and held on the second Thursday each month at 7:00 PM in the Spencer Township Meeting Room located at 630 North Meilke, Holland, OH 43528.

Zoning Board of Zoning Appeals

Applications for a Variance (from the requirements of the Zoning Resolution) or for an Exception (a use or activity not normally allowed within the Zoning Resolution) are filed with the Spencer Township Zoning Administrator on behalf of the Board of Zoning Appeals. Board members are township residents, appointed by the Trustees, each serving a five year term.

All Zoning Appeal meetings are held as needed on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM.
